St Clare of Assisi Parish

To everyone who supported our Race Night.

Nearly 100 people joined us - a tremendous number of people.

Many thanks to the organisers.

Bidding in the auction to play in the charity football match at the Riverside Stadium will close on Friday at noon.

At the time of writing (Wednesday evening) £300 had been raised in support of Fr John Paul’s bid to play in the first half.

All proceeds from this event will go to the Children’s Cancer Hospital in Baghdad where this money is desperately needed. Sincere thanks to the parishioners of St Clare’s for their very generous support.
John Hinman, one of the Baghdad Appeal’s organisers, writes,

‘Every item we send is at the request of the medical team and is of great importance for sick and vulnerable children. We are now raising funds for the sixth consignment and we are particularly grateful for the help we are receiving from Father Paul Farrer and his team; Dave Allen, Middlesbrough Football Club and the Knights of St Columba, as well as many other generous supporters.’

Professor Ibrahim al-Nassir of the Children’s Cancer Hospital adds, “Thank God for this help.”

A Justice and Peace Commission meeting on Saturday 3rd May, 10am at English Martyrs, Dalton Terrace, York.

Tuesday, 9.30am (ie. after Mass) in the Parish Room.

I have received some information on how to write to our local MPs expressing concerns over this issue. If anyone would like to write to their MP we will have a session on Tuesday 22nd April after Mass and Monday 28th, 7pm in the Parish Room.

There are still some offertory envelopes awaiting collection from the table at the back of church.

Thank you for the vouchers already collected. St Clare’s School is very grateful for them. Please continue to collect them and put them on the table at the back of church.

Fr Paul Farrer, for reasons which escape mere humans and all other gravity-constrained species, intends to bungy(bungee?)-jump off the Transporter Bridge in June.
