Please keep Fr Tom O’Neill in your prayers
Fr Tom O’Neill is shortly to go into hospital for major heart surgery and will be out of action for the next six months. I have been asked, along with other priests in the area to help provide cover for the parishes of Sacred Heart and the Holy Name at weekends and during the week. Ron Smith, the vicar of Brookfield, is about to retire. He has been a great friend and support to St Clare’s parish in so many ways and for many years. Harvest Thanksgiving
Today is Harvest Thanksgiving Day, an ancient festival which, along with many other feasts, succumbed to Henry VIII’s fall out with the Papacy. Later revived, the Victorians in particular loved Harvest Thanksgiving, perhaps because it reminded them of the rural life before the Industrial Revolution. Today we give thanks for God’s bounty.read more
