Congratulations to Father Joe Brennan on the Diamond Jubilee of his Ordination to the Priesthood which he celebrated on 23rd July and to Jim and Tess Donegan on their Diamond Wedding Anniversary which they celebrate on Thurs 29th July.

St Clare’s footballers win excellence award

The young footballers of St Clare’s School have recently won The Mike McCullagh Memorial Cup, which is awarded for ‘excellence‘ in respect of entry to, and participation in, the annual Diocesan schools football tournament, the ‘Catholic Primary Schools Cup’ which is organised by Teesport Chaplain Mr Tony McAvoy.

The Mike McCullagh Memorial Cup was presented by Mr Laurie Savage of the organising committee during a school assembly at St Clare’s, much to the delight of the children, Mrs Sue Fall, the Headteacher, and Mrs Louise Pennick, the Football Co-ordinator.

Well done to all involved.

The Day for Life

There will be a retiring collection next weekend for the Day for Life, the day, initiated by the late Pope John Paul II, when the Catholic Church in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales dedicates to celebrating the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.

Day for Life 2010 aims to present the Church’s teaching on death; it will highlight the importance of the sacrament of the sick, of praying for the dead and of accompanying the dying person as they journey towards God. It will also point towards the consoling presence and support of the community of faith and all of those who ‘have gone before us marked with the sign of faith’.

Each year, in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the Bishops’ Conferences work closely together to celebrate Day for Life. In Scotland the Day is celebrated on 31 May – The Feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. In England and Wales, Day for Life falls on 25 July and in Ireland it will be celebrated on 3 October.

Ring in the new!

The new Laudate hymn books are now in use, the dedication plates from the old hymnals have been transferred. If any names are missing it will be due to hymn books having gone walkabout.

Many of the plastic and wooden chairs that we use for the fair and at Christmas were in a dangerous condition, the Cathedral parish was disposing of its loose seating so 50 of their chairs have found a new home at St Clare’s.

Thanks to all who travelled to the Harrogate Flower Show on Saturday 24th April. A great day was had by all, and thanks to the generosity of all who bought raffle tickets, a donation of £150 has been sent to Zoe’s place.

The recent charity evening for breast cancer raised £1260 which will go to James Cook Hospital.

Parking

There have been a number of accidents in the car park in recent weeks, mostly minor damage to vehicles.

Please can we be extra careful.

Also please do not park in Low Lane.

Bishop Terry will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation for the Middlesbrough Deanery on June 15th.

Any parishioner in Year 9 or above is invited to prepare for the Sacrament.
There will be a meeting at the Cathedral Hall on Wednesday 27th January at 7pm for all those who wish to be confirmed.

Parishioners who would like to help with the preparation are also invited to attend.
