£484.60 was raised from the Friday Lenten Soup Lunches that we shared with St Margaret’s and the Salvation Army for CAFOD.

Thanks to all who supported this effort.

The government’s matched funding means that this amount will be doubled.

Lenten Soups

This Lent we will again be sharing Lenten Soups with our fellow local Christians on Fridays, 12 noon at;

St Clare’s on 16th March
St Margaret’s at The Oval on 23rd March
The Salvation Army Citadel on 30th March.

All donations will be going to CAFOD.

Coffee Morning in aid of East African crisis

[ Saturday July 23, 2011; 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. ] There will also be a coffee morning in support of CAFOD’s appeal in The Blue Bell Hotel on Saturday 23rd July, from 12 noon until 2pm Donations of bottles, etc for a tombola would be gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at Maureen Dowd’s home (94 Low Lane).

Crisis in the Horn of Africa

The UK’s Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), of which CAFOD is a member, has decided to launch an appeal and emergency response with immediate effect.
As part of this response CAFOD is launching its own £5m appeal so that Catholics can choose to give directly to CAFOD.

CAFOD has over thirty years experience of working with the Church across East Africa and we are confident that our partners are well placed to respond to this emergency.

The extensive community networks of the Church and its traditional role in supporting those most in need at times of crisis mean it is uniquely placed to act.
CAFOD also currently has staff placed in Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan and CAFOD has already committed over £300,000 to the crisis response in the past three months.

There will be an emergency collection for CAFOD next weekend.

For the people of East Africa;

We pray for the people of East Africa who are suffering because of drought: that their hunger may be sated and their thirst quenched. Lord, in your mercy…

The CAFOD Lenten Fast Day will be on Friday 18th March. Please take home an envelope and return it next week.

This Lent help a family start life again. Whatever you give up this Lent, transform it into lasting change. Give something up and donate the money you save for a family, or even a whole community living in poverty. Lenten Soups

The tradition of shared soups on Friday in Lent continues this year.

Once again we are sharing with our fellow local Christians from St Margaret’s Church of England Church at The Oval and the Salvation Army whose Citadel is on Trimdon Avenue.

The Lenten soups will be as follows;

11th March – St Clare’s
18th March – Salvation Army
25th March – St Margaret’s
1st April – Salvation Army
8th April – St Margaret’s
15th April – St Clare’s

There will be service or Stations of the Cross before soup and all will commence at noon. All donations will go to CAFOD. All are welcome!

Family Fast Day
