In Year A the Gospel readings are largely taken from the Gospel of Matthew, in Year B Mark and in Year C Luke.
The fourth Gospel, that of John, is very different to the others (known as the Synoptic Gospels) and does not have the same structure, focusing instead on the risen life of Christ, so it is read at times during the Lent and Easter seasons and also during the seasons of Advent and Christmas.
