Many thanks to all the kind and generous people who have sent clothes, presents and food items in response to our newsletter appeal on behalf of an asylum seeker who is homeless with a family with no financial support. She has asked us to convey her gratitude and has promised to pray for us all at St.Clare’s.

She is sharing a house with friends and sleeps on a hard floor on a mattress. If anyone has a single bed they are wanting rid of, could you please email webmaster@stclare.org.uk

Also, thank you everyone who has left food items throughout the year.

Help urgently needed for young mum

Help is urgently sought for a young, pregnant Congolese woman and her 18 month old son. This lady is not receiving any financial support and needs clothes for her son and baby clothes as well as the usual things a baby needs. She has nothing and is staying with a friend.

So if you can provide any help to this young woman, please contact Barbara Morris on 277358, Gerry Butterfield on 593698, email webmaster@stclare.org.uk or leave small goods in the church porch.

Catenian Raffle for MYMission

Each year the President of the Catenians local circle chooses a charity or good cause to support. This year he has chosen MYMission (the Middlesbrough Youth Mission). MYMission is a development proposed by Bishop John, endorsed by Bishop Terry and led by Fr Paul Farrer.

MYMission relies on donations/fundraising (eg The Walney Island to Whitby bike ride for which many parishioners sponsored Phil Luke and so helped raise a much appreciated total of £5000). Now the Catenians have decided on a massive, diocese-wide raffle – 30,000 tickets at £1 each, to be drawn at annual dinner at the Riverside Stadium on January 20th. The money raised goes towards providing accommodation, travel around the diocese and feeding the team.

Last year the MYMission team worked with around 20,000 young people in our diocese and beyond. Please buy some raffle tickets and support this invaluable work with our young people, the future of the church.

Christmas Shoe Boxes

Because of your continued generosity 36 lucky seafarers will receive a surprise Christmas Present.

Phil’s Fantastic Feet (and big heart)

Phil Snowden, who recently ran in support of our parish organ fund and Zoë’s Place, will be running again this time in the Jolly Holly Trail Race on 27th December in Ripon.

Phil will be supporting the Catholic Handicapped Fellowship.

He will be very grateful to anyone who would like to sponsor him.

CAUSE Hamper Campaign

The CAUSE (Catholics Against Unemployment and Social Evils) Christmas Hamper Campaign takes place each year across our diocese, supporting families in need.

Any contributions of food/gifts/money can be left at St Clare’s School (as they have ‘adopted’ some families) or given to Gerry Butterfield.

A Day of Special Prayer

This Sunday is a day of special prayer for the Worldwide mission of the Church. Many thanks to those parishioners who support this Mission through prayer and the Red Mission Boxes.

There will be a second collection at Mass this weekend for this important work.

St Clare’s Christmas Fair 2011

St Clare’s Parish Christmas Fair will be on Saturday 12th November at St Margaret’s Church Hall, The Oval, 10am until 12 noon.

Once again we are asking if you can generously give any donations or tombola and raffle prizes tomake this a very successful event.
